Judith Rainhorn is a Professor in Modern History at University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (Centre d'histoire sociale des mondes contemporains) and a Maison française d'Oxford researcher in History and History of Science. Her research interests include the history of medicine and health, urban history, environmental and labour history in France, Europe and the United States, 19th-20th c., on which she has published extensively.

In 2020, Judith received the Fondation des Sciences sociales Award for excellence in research.

Judith's present research deals with the history of industrial poisons and occupational diseases. Her most recent book is entitled: Blanc de plomb. Histoire d'un poison légal, published at Presses de Sciences Po (2019). It was awarded the 2020 François-Bourdon Academy Prize and the 2020 Prescrire journal Prize.
Her next book is a biography of Dr Alice Hamilton (1869-1970), an American female physician who pioneered urban social reform and industrial medicine in the US as of the 1900s.

Judith is involved in the international research project "Deadly Dreams. The cultural history of poisons, 1850-2020", lead by University of Agder, Norway.

Head of the editorial board of Revue d'histoire de la Protection sociale, member of the editorial board of Le Mouvement social and Histoire urbaine.
