Study at Oxford
Graduate Study in the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology at the University of Oxford
The Centre for the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology (OCHSMT) at the University of Oxford brings together broad subject expertise in HSMT in one of the world's largest history departments. The Centre offers teaching and supervision spanning the Medieval World to the modern era. We have particular expertise in the history of global and colonial medicine; material culture and scientific knowledge; innovation and war; the history of psychiatry; and the history of science and technology from 1350 to 1950. We also benefit from close links with the History of Science Museum, the Pitt Rivers Museum, and the Ashmolean Museum.
We offer one-year (MSc) and two-year (MPhil) master's programmes, which provide rigorous training in all aspects of the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology as well as general historical methodologies. Master's students are part of the History Faculty, and can choose to take a range of Option Papers specific to HSMT as well as Papers from general MSt programmes in History.
